Born and raised in Swaziland, Fikiswa is a Toronto based writer and storyteller.

Having moved from a predominantly Black society to a predominantly white, Fikiswa was forced to address parts of herself she had never considered before, particularly the understanding of race in America and how it creates the notion of self and otherness.

Thus, her poetry and prose focus on race, gender, sexuality, sexual orientation, class, nationality and the intersection at which they meet. She is passionate about rewriting the misguided narrative of Africa and her children that is often (mis)represented in mainstream media.

Fikiswa is also a traveler – moving from one place to the next. Adventure thrills her and she's always seeking a new one, especially in areas rarely seen in the magazines.
